Enhancing Infura’s on-chain transaction processing capabilities starting with MEV protection
Infura is excited to announce upcoming enhancements to its platform, focusing on improving transaction processing capabilities. This initiative is part of Infura's broader plan to deliver a superior developer experience, particularly for those submitting on-chain transactions. These enhancements will simplify transaction submissions, reduce friction, and enable developers to create more efficient and reliable dApps.
This new functionality applies exclusively to Ethereum Mainnet transactions submitted via the eth_sendRawTransaction RPC method. As a result, transactions sent to Ethereum Mainnet by free-tier developers will be protected from harmful MEV (Maximal Extractable Value) strategies, such as frontrunning and sandwich attacks.
How does MEV protection work
MEV protection is enabled by routing eth_sendRawTransactions RPC method calls to a virtual mempool before they are added to a public block. The transactions in the virtual mempool are then auctioned to a set of trusted and validated network participants, who place bids for the exclusive right to include the transaction in a future public block. By keeping transactions away from the public mempool, it protects developers from harmful MEV strategies that could negatively impact their transactions.
MEV protection is a critical step toward our commitment to improving the on-chain transaction experience for developers and meeting the needs of Web3 consumers.
We are initially offering MEV protection to free-tier developers while refining the functionality, before expanding it to all developers. Stay tuned for more updates.
When will these changes take effect?
These changes will take effect automatically starting on March 11th, 2025.
What this means for developers
Free-tier users will automatically receive MEV protection at no cost.
Paid-tier developers will gain access to the feature once it is made generally available to all developers.
What action you need to take
No action is required. Free-tier developers will receive MEV protection by default.
