MetaMask send and swap

Now, when you send crypto from your wallet, you can choose whatever token you want to spend from and choose the token the other person wants to receive. MetaMask is streamlining payments by enabling swaps within the send transaction flow.

Owe your friend DAI but only have ETH? Instead of swapping in a separate DEX and coming back to your account to handle it, you can spend your existing crypto, choose the token and amount your friend wants to receive, and confirm the approval.

This update is available on all swap-supported networks on MetaMask Extension, with Mobile and Portfolio coming soon.

Eliminate multiple steps with one approval

Our assets become more pragmatic when friends, family, and businesses choose to accept crypto. Want to use your airdrop to split the bill with friends? Put those niche memecoins to use by funding another account with ETH? Tip your conference barista in stablecoins with a QR code?

We hope this update makes using crypto more convenient and flexible. You can show your non-web3 friends and family the ropes and how to get started.

Why send crypto over cash?

Good point, if you haven’t used the “Send” feature in a while, here are some everyday use cases. But TL;DR: crypto enables micro-transfers, instant settlement, and is borderless.

  • Splitting bills: Whether you're out for dinner with friends or sharing household expenses with roommates, using crypto allows you to settle bills, even across different currencies if your friends are international.
  • Gifting crypto: Ever consider sending birthday crypto or inaugurating a friend’s first crypto account?
  • Transferring funds between accounts: Sometimes you just gotta move tokens around your accounts.
  • Buying or selling goods and services: Depending on who accepts it, you can enable microtransactions
  • Tipping or donating: Crypto means you can tip service providers (like the ETHDenver baristas) and contribute to charities in the token of their choice without geographical limitations.

How to use MetaMask’s “Send and Swap” feature

  1. Open your MetaMask wallet and select “Send” within the actions bar
  2. Enter the address you want to send crypto to
  3. Choose the token and enter the amount you want to send from your account (example: ETH)
  4. Choose the token the account will receive (example: your friend Gimli only wants/accepts DAI)
  5. Review quote and confirm transaction
