We're excited to share that tokenized real-world assets (aka RWAs) are now available on MetaMask, via Ondo Global Markets. RWAs finally make it easy for people from regions around the world to tap into the value of US stocks and ETFs, including commodities, index funds, and treasuries. RWAs also give you powerful new ways to invest by using these same assets across DeFi. What are RWAs?

In DeFi, RWAs (short for Real World Assets) refer to blockchain-based tokens that represent economic exposure to traditional equities & ETFs. They're backed 1:1 with the underlying assets and redeemable for their full value. A key, unique benefit of RWAs is that you can invest just like you do when owning the traditional asset, while also using the tokenized version across DeFi for lending, swapping, and yield. 

What you can do with RWAs on MetaMask?

MetaMask lets you trade RWAs in the same way that you can trade any other token. One of the most powerful features of trading RWAs on MetaMask is that you don’t have to be a US resident, or have access to a brokerage account: you can trade them like any other token, and with no extra signups needed. RWAs can also be traded outside of traditional financial market hours: you can buy and sell 24 hours a day, five days a week on weekdays. You can also transfer the tokens anytime, and use them across DeFi for lending and receiving yield. 

How to get started with RWAs on MetaMask

We’ve made it simple for you to buy and sell RWAs the same way you do when swapping other tokens. Here’s how to start:

1. Update MetaMask Mobile or MetaMask Extension to the latest version

2. From the home screen, tap Swap

3. Search for Ondo stocks (like Google: GOOGLon), commodities (like silver: SILVon), and more by typing in the ticker

4. Select the tokenized RWA you want to trade, input the swap details, and tap Submit

5. You’re done!
