Wrapped Solana (WSOL) is a Solana-pegged token that can be used on the Ethereum blockchain network. Solana network’s native cryptocurrency is a token called Solana (SOL). Because Solana runs on a different network than Ethereum, you cannot use SOL directly on Ethereum. So, WSOL was created in order to use a SOL-backed token on Ethereum. This is similar to other wrapped tokens e.g. WBTC, WXRP, WRTX and more.
Wrapping 1 SOL produces 1 WSOL—an Ethereum-compatible, ERC-20, token that is pegged 1:1 with Solana. In other words, every WSOL is fully redeemable for one SOL.WSOL is beneficial to Ethereum because it increases accessibility, liquidity, and interoperability between chains.
