How MetaMask Social login works

Traditionally, you need a 12 word Secret Recovery Phrase (SRP) to manage non-custodial crypto wallets. This route gives you more control and security over your digital assets than traditional financial accounts. But keeping track of your SRP can be cumbersome. 

Social login simplifies the wallet creation and management process. Get started in two steps: 

1. Sign-in with your Google or Apple ID.

2. Create a unique, secure password.

You’re in! You can now use Social login. 

Your SRP is then generated under the hood, and can be recovered later using the same social account and password that was used to set-up your wallet.

Web2 familiarity meets web3 security 

No single entity, not even MetaMask, can access all of the pieces needed in order to retrieve your SRP, preserving the self-custodial nature of your wallet. Only your social credentials combined with your unique password can ultimately unlock the SRP on a local device.
