Introducing MetaMask Transaction Shield
We’ve launched early access to an exciting new premium subscription for MetaMask users: Transaction Shield.
Transaction Shield pairs Transaction Protection with priority support for a new kind of coverage inside your wallet.

What is Transaction Shield?

Transaction Shield is an extension of MetaMask’s security stack. Subscribers to Transaction Shield will be guaranteed against loss—up to $10,000 per month—for any transaction we deem safe.
A Transaction Shield subscription is $9.99 per month, or $99 annually, and includes:
  1. Transaction Protection: Subscribers are guaranteed against loss up to $10,000 per month, across up to 100 eligible transactions per month.
  2. 24/7 Priority Support: Priority access to expert support whenever you need it.
You can try Transaction Shield free for 14 days. If you choose the annual plan, receive a $20 discount off the yearly fee.
See the Transaction Shield Terms of Use and Privacy Notice here.

How Transaction Protection works

The MetaMask security stack is already working in-app right now to protect you and your assets. Our infrastructure performs automated transaction simulations and checks of contract safety, token behavior, and past performance. We also proactively identify and block malicious domains and emerging threats in real time.
These security features are available to all MetaMask users. When a transaction passes these rigorous checks, it’s deemed safe. Transaction Protection gives you additional peace of mind, covering any loss on a deemed-safe transaction up to $10,000.
If you subscribe to Transaction Shield, you will receive clear, in-app alerts when a transaction is covered. This protection specifically covers losses that might occur at the point of transaction: it doesn’t cover losses incurred before or after a transaction (see below).

What is covered?

Transaction Protection is currently available on MetaMask Extension, with mobile support coming soon. It supports transactions on a range of popular networks, including Ethereum, Linea, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Optimism, Base, Polygon, BSC, and Sei.
Eligible interactions include:
  • DeFi swaps and lending: Swapping tokens on verified apps like Uniswap or 1inch, or engaging in lending/liquidity interactions on protocols such as Aave or Lido.
  • NFT mints and sales: Minting or selling on trusted marketplaces such as OpenSea or Rarible.
  • Airdrop claims: Claiming airdrops from verified smart contracts.

What isn’t covered?

Transaction Protection does not cover all scenarios:
  • Compromised wallets: Losses caused by phishing, malware, leaked or stolen Secret Recovery Phrases, or poor key storage are excluded.
  • Speculative and economic losses: Transactions that worked as expected but resulted in financial loss, such as trading tokens that dropped in value, or low liquidity interactions.
  • Protocol exploits: Losses resulting from hacked or vulnerable DeFi protocols or smart contracts outside of MetaMask’s control.

What is the claim process?

Opening a claim is quick and easy: from MetaMask Extension, navigate to Settings and click the Transaction Shield section.
  1. Open a claim: Submit your transaction details in the portal within 21 days of your loss.
  2. Follow the process: We’ll keep you up-to-date on the process via email
  3. Receive your funds: Once approved, you will receive your assets back to the address provided in the claim form. Most claims will be processed within 15 business days. Payment is reimbursed in mUSD at the current market rate directly to the specified wallet address.
