Trade Real World Assets

Real World Assets (RWAs) are tokenized versions of traditional assets, like US stocks, ETFs, gold, silver, and private credit loans. MetaMask has partnered with Ondo Global Markets to bring 200+ RWAs into MetaMask Swaps on mobile, giving users worldwide access to US markets. (Supported regions only.)

Ondo Global Markets, sometimes also referred to as Ondo, is a platform that tokenizes publicly traded US stocks and ETFs. Non-US investors can buy, transfer, and sell securities-backed tokens right from your MetaMask wallet. Each token is fully backed by the corresponding asset, held with licensed US custodial broker-dealers.

They are digital tokens delivering total-return exposure to publicly traded assets. Each token mirrors the performance of its underlying asset, like price movements, dividends, and corporate actions, so holders participate in the same economic results as direct ownership, with dividends reinvested (net of withholding taxes).

Example: AAPLon tracks Apple Inc. (AAPL). The "-on" suffix denotes Ondo Global Markets tokenized assets. Prices are quoted in USD. Assets can be sold 24/5 for stablecoins on Ethereum mainnet.

You can buy, sell, and trade RWAs like any token via Swaps on MetaMask Mobile App. Update to the latest version of MetaMask on iOS or Android to get started. (Extension support coming soon).

1. Open MetaMask Mobile App

2. Tap the Swap button

3. Select the token you want to swap from. Example: USDC via Ethereum.

4. Select the tokenized asset you want to swap to. Example: GOOGLon via Ethereum. 

5. Check the details, then tap Submit to confirm your transaction.

You can buy or sell RWAs 24/5, Sunday 20:00 ET to Friday 19:59 ET. Transferring RWAs peer-to-peer is available 24/7.

Non-US users in approved regions can trade RWAs in just a few taps. No KYC or signups are required.

RWAs are currently unavailable in the following regions:

Afghanistan, Algeria, Belarus, Brazil, Canada, China (Including Hong Kong), Crimea, Donetsk People’s Republic (DNR), European Economic Area, Luhansk People’s Republic (LNR), Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions (Ukraine), the city of Sevastopol, Cuba, Democratic Republic of Korea, Eritrea, Iran, Libya, Malaysia, Myanmar, Morocco, Nepal, Russia, Singapore, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Switzerland, Syria, United States, or any of its states, possessions, territories or federal districts, United Kingdom, Venezuela.

Tokenized assets and traditional assets both follow market price changes and pay dividends.
Key differences:

• Tokenized RWAs: Work with DeFi apps, and do not require an ID check nor a broker to get started. 

• Traditional assets: Do not work with DeFi apps; require an ID check and a broker to get started. Give you shareholder voting rights. 

Ondo Global Markets connects directly to traditional equity market liquidity, eliminating the need for dedicated crypto liquidity pools. Buying and selling RWAs is as smooth as investing in traditional stocks, with more flexible trading times.

• Bankruptcy-remote structure: Issued from a special purpose vehicle with independent directors. Assets, books, and accounts are segregated from Ondo Finance Inc. and Ondo Foundation.
  

• Fully backed + overcollateralized: Each token is backed by the underlying stocks/ETFs plus additional collateral. 
  

• Daily transparent attestations: Independent verification by Ankura Trust Company. All holdings at US-registered custodial broker-dealers.
