About Avalanche (AVAX)

Avalanche is a decentralized, Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) compatible blockchain network launched in September 2020 by Emin Gün Sirer, founder of Ava Labs. The network is powered by a Proof of Stake (Pos) consensus mechanism, and features three integrated blockchains, Exchange Chain (X-Chain), Platform Chain (P-Chain), and Contract Chain (C-Chain):

- X Chain is used for creating and transferring digital assets

- P Chain is used for staking, validator management, and L1 creation

- C Chain is used for supporting Ethereum decentralized apps (dapps), and Ethereum services

The native cryptocurrency of Avalanche is called AVAX. The AVAX token is ERC-20, meaning it is compatible with the Ethereum network. It is a utility token that is largely used for transaction fees on the network, staking, and governance on Avalanche, as well as within dapps.

The CME Group introduced futures contracts for AVAX, giving institutional traders a regulated venue for exposure and hedging. This development builds on the availability of spot AVAX exposure through staking-enabled ETFs from managers including VanEck, Grayscale, and Bitwise. It reflects continued integration of the token into traditional financial markets. Zero flows were recorded for AVAX ETFs in the latest daily data alongside outflows from bitcoin and ether products.
The Avalanche9000 and Etna upgrades transition the network from subnets to independent sovereign layer 1 chains with their own validators and governance. Deployment costs for new chains fall by over 99 percent while the C-Chain minimum base fee drops 96 percent. These changes improve scalability, isolate congestion, and add inter-chain messaging for better interoperability. The updates support specialized deployments for AI agents, gaming, and tokenized real-world assets.
Kraken launched global AVAX staking with a promotional 10 percent APY for bonded staking that steps down to 7 percent, plus flexible options. The exchange manages all validator operations, lowering barriers for users in supported jurisdictions. Staking features also appear in live AVAX ETFs. Nearly half the circulating supply is already staked, reinforcing network security while offering yield opportunities to holders.
