• Eigenlayer has rebranded to eigencloud and introduced a developer platform designed to extend blockchain trust and verifiability to any application on or off chain. The platform leverages autonomous verifiable services, data availability, and new primitives called eigenverify and eigencompute to let developers prove events and build products such as verifiable ai, onchain insurance, and prediction markets. An alpha version ships this week with a gated eigenverify release while eigencompute remains on the future roadmap. This shift positions the protocol to serve industries like large language models, medical records, and media.
• Venture firm a16z purchased $70 million worth of EIGEN tokens directly from the Eigen Foundation. This move doubles down on its earlier leadership of the project's $100 million series B in 2024. The investment comes as the protocol launches its EigenCloud platform despite EIGEN trading well below its launch price. The purchase signals long-term confidence in the restaking ecosystem and its expansion into verifiable computing.
• EigenCloud continues to secure substantial total value locked reported between $6.7 billion and over $11 billion in recent data. This comes even as the EIGEN token has declined significantly from its 2024 highs and launch valuation. Earlier governance proposals from late 2025 focused on better incentives for active users securing AVSs and contributing to the ecosystem. Bithumb also updated its token listing name to EigenCloud in May 2026 to align with the rebrand.
