Following the 2025 North Star Hardfork and FIP-428, the original FRAX stablecoin was renamed Legacy Frax Dollar to distinguish it from newer products. It preserves its role for backward compatibility with a circulating supply of roughly 276 to 280 million tokens while primary innovation focuses on frxUSD backed by tokenized Treasuries such as BlackRock's BUIDL. The token continues to trade in a tight range around its $1 target with minimal volatility. This restructuring clarifies product roles across the Frax ecosystem including Fraxtal.
Frax is upgrading Frax Bonds on Fraxtal to change the underlying asset from frxUSD to Legacy Frax Dollar under FIP-430. The work including code and tests is nearly complete pending audit. This aligns instruments with the post-North Star token architecture and enshrined custodian model. It demonstrates ongoing technical maintenance of legacy components alongside new stablecoin development.
Incentives for supplying frxUSD went live on Aave V4 main market. Community discussion highlights strong yields in frxUSD pairs with some pools offering over 20 percent APY. These moves expand utility of Frax stablecoins in leading DeFi platforms. Legacy Frax Dollar remains part of the broader ecosystem supported for compatibility.
