Learn how to go from cash to crypto.

Brave is a web browser that was created in 2016 by JavaScript creator and Mozilla co-founder Brendan Eich, alongside Brian Bondy. Its native cryptocurrency, called Basic Attention Token (BAT), is an ERC-20 token, which means that it is compatible with the Ethereum ecosystem. Launched in May 2017, BAT is a utility token that monetizes time spent online when using Brave to peruse the internet.
To earn BAT when using Brave, you must opt-in to the Brave Rewards Program. This allows you to be tracked and served ads on the browser. In return you receive BAT as a reward. Businesses pay for ad placements using BAT. Opting in to be tracked and served ads on Brave is optional. Elsewhere, Brave’s Creator program allows creators and publishers to earn BAT as tips and be given BAT for high performing content. BAT owners are typically advertisers, businesses, creators, and crypto participants who want control over their browser tracking.| Today (5 December 2025) | $0.2699 | -0.64% |
